Stainless Steel 347 Flange is frequently used as a stable alternative to SS 304. The stabilizing ingredient in SS 347 is columbium. This metal improves the previously existing capacity of SS 347 to survive intergranular corrosion. Furthermore, the columbium permits 347 to be heated repeatedly in temperatures as high as 1650° F. As a result, the metal is frequently used in high-temperature equipment such as gaskets and expansion joints, as well as rocket engines and chemical processing. In addition to its heat resistance, 347 has greater resistance to creep and stress rupture corrosion. Type 347 is well-known for its ability to operate with all major welding procedures, including hot and cold working. When heat treating, however, the metal must be heated to between 2100 and 2250°F. As a result, cold reduction is the only method that can make use of the alloy's exceptional properties.

Stainless Steel 347H Flange shares many of the same features and characteristics as stainless steel 347. In addition to its greater carbon content, the alloy is stabilized with columbium or, in certain cases, tantalum. Both of these properties allow 347H to be subjected to greater temperatures than both 347 and 304 stainless steel grades can. Because of its great corrosion resistance, 347H is frequently used in high-stress, high corrosion situations with harsh exposure. Under most typical welding processes, the metal has great workability. Heat can be used to cure it, but it will not react. Only cold working can strengthen the toughness and strength of 347H.
