Stainless Steel 409 Sheets are primarily intended for use in the automotive exhaust industry, but they are not confined to that application. The SS 409 Sheet Plate has excellent corrosion resistance and is appropriate for extremely high temperatures. Ferric steel plates with excellent oxidation resistance and fabrication properties are known as SS UNS S40900 Plates.
What is SS 409 Sheet Plate?
A ferritic grade of stainless steel includes SS 409. In high-temperature systems reaching 675 degrees C, 409 stainless steel plate provides outstanding corrosion resistance. It can tolerate temperatures up to 815 degrees Celsius for continuous temperature services. The SS 409 Sheet Plate is resistant to atmospheric and exhaust gas corrosion. Compared to the 430 grades, the typical corrosion level is lower. To make sure that these modules are correctly welded into place, the SS 409 Plate is typically warmed at temperatures. Temperature between 790 and 900 degrees C can be used to per-heat the 409 Stainless Steel Sheet modules.
Chemical Composition of SS 409 Sheet Plate
The chemical composition of the 409 stainless steel plate is 10.5 to 11.75% chromium, 0.5% nickel, and a trace amount of titanium to stabilize them.
Properties of Stainless Steel 409 Sheet Plate
A 409 stainless steel sheet has a minimum yield strength of 240 MPa, a tensile strength of 450 MPa, and good mechanical qualities. In many car exhaust systems and agricultural machinery under high pressure, the Stainless Steel 409 CR Plates is used. SS 409 sheets will offer better toughness and weld ability for welded applications over 0.120 in. (3.048 mm) thick. Similar to Type 410, Type 409 has excellent overall corrosion resistance, outperforming carbon steel products in most applications. Sheets of Type 409 often include a specific number of surface inclusions resulting from titanium additions. Occasionally red rust may develop at specific inclusion locations and cause cosmetic damage.
Benefits of SS 409 Plates
- SS 409 Sheet Plate exhibit extremely high levels of corrosion resistance, so they become corrosion- and stain-resistant owing to the layer of chromium oxide that is produced.
- Stainless steel plates and steel have the highest strength-to-weight ratio compared to other metals.
- Since this form of stainless steel is simple to keep clean, it also aids in keeping cleanliness. Additionally, it is entirely recyclable.
Applications of Stainless Steel 409 Sheets
The production of exhaust systems is one of the uses for SS 409 sheets and plates. Heat ex-changers are made using SS UNS S40900 Plates because of their high heat-carrying capacity. Some of the current applications include exhaust systems for cars and trucks, tubular manifolds, agricultural spreaders, gas turbine exhaust silencers, and fuel filters. Despite being heavily employed in other applications such as mufflers, catalytic converters, tailpipes, hospitals, heat ex-changer tubing, furnace components, etc., 409 Sheets & Plates are primarily useful in the automobile exhaust industry.
