Inconel 600 is a high-temperature nickel-chromium alloy with strong oxidation resistance. This alloy is known for their excellent resistance in carburizing and chloride containing environments. This nickel alloy has been designed for operation temperatures ranging from cryogenic to high temperatures below 2000 ° F. It is non-magnetic, has outstanding mechanical properties, and under a large range of temperatures offers the ideal combination of high strength and decent weldability.
Inconel 600, though, is a costly commodity, one that is only saved for the right conditions of use where other products will not function either. Alloy 600’s tolerance to sulfur compounds and different oxidizing conditions is given by the chromium content in them. Under oxidizing conditions, the alloy’s chromium content makes it comparable to commercially pure nickel. 600 has low tolerance to fast oxidizing solutions such as heavy, concentrated nitric acid. Compared with the 73.2 ksi of stainless steel, Inconel 600 has a strong tensile strength range of 103 -160 ksi and can sustain its strength at higher operating temperature. The material experiences high levels of tension and salt water tolerance, combustion gases, and most organic acids and compounds.
Applications of Inconel 600 Alloy.

Jet engines are different in that they usually have to tolerate extreme temperatures during use, both high and low. (well within the normal cruising altitude of a passenger jet), but the combustion cycle will reach 1.150 ° C (2120 ° F).

Thanks to its exceptional tolerance to sodium chloride (salt) at a range of levels, Inconel 600 is often used in sea applications. Therefore, Inconel 600 can be suitable for a parts washing basket for operations that use salt or plant positions near the ocean.
Super alloy, though, would only be much more effective than stainless steel grade 316 if extreme temperatures above 1,000 ° F were also a problem. At high temperatures, Inconel 600 would preserve its oxidation strength more than would 316 SS.
